Beautiful women, exotic-looking to the average American, are nowadays much easier to find than our fathers and grandfathers could ever imagine. They’re sitting pretty right there on your computer screen, looking for romance and – let’s be realistic for a moment – a nice way out of their financial troubles. Online dating sites are now the primary tool for single, reasonably affluent western men to meet young and not-so-young ladies from Eastern Europe and strike up some kind of relationship. It may sound far-fetched, but the truth is that many Americans are forsaking their countrywomen and looking for love that far away. Maybe it’s some sort of atavistic male urge to fall for dependent, needy women. Or perhaps it’s just that they’re looking for something different. Either way, it’s the Internet that brings them together. Some dating sites are even specialized in this kind of transcontinental adventure, and many of them do seem to make a tidy profit out of it. Globalization has reached cupid’s arrow, some would say. Conservative minds, as well as some feminists, claim that it’s just another form of female exploitation. Moral or not, it’s happening everyday. Since it’s the women who usually end up coming to the States in these cases, will all this help mold America’s near future as a country full of international couples? Only time and Cupid will tell.
